Kitchelt, Florence Ledyard Cross (17 Dec. 1874–4 Apr. 1961), settlement house worker, suffragist, and peace advocate, was born Florence Ledyard Cross in Rochester, New York, to Frederick Holland Cross, a senior partner in the Cross Brothers firm, and Jennie Ledyard Cross. Florence attended high school at the Rochester Free Academy and, befitting her socially prominent family, like her mother held memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rochester Political Equality Club, and the Women’s Educational and Industrial Union. As a student at Wells College in Aurora, New York, she also belonged to the College Woman’s Club....
