Vernon, Mabel (10 Sept. 1883–2 Sept. 1975), suffragist, political organizer, and peace activist, was born in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of George Washington Vernon, a newspaper publisher, and Mary Hooten. Her father’s family belonged to the Society of Friends (Quakers).
