Hook, Sidney (20 December 1902–12 July 1989), political philosopher, was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Isaac Hook, a garment worker, and Jennie Halpern. Raised in the Jewish immigrant neighborhood of Williamsburg, he graduated from Boys High School in Brooklyn in 1919 and from City College of New York in 1923.
