Stevens, George (18 December 1904–08 March 1975), film director, was born George Cooper Stevens in Oakland, California, the son of Landers Stevens and Georgia Cooper, performer/managers of a San Francisco theater troupe. Stevens worked intermittently as a child actor, making his stage debut at age five at San Francisco’s Alcazar Theatre. After one year at Valley Union High School in Sonoma, California, Stevens moved with his family to Los Angeles, where his father sought work in the burgeoning movie industry.
