Littlefield, Dorothie (16 September 1912–24 August 1953), dancer, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James E. Littlefield, a businessman, and Caroline Doebele. Her parents’ abiding interest in music and dance strongly influenced Dorothie and her three siblings. Caroline Littlefield opened the Littlefield School of Ballet in 1908 and began training her two daughters as soon as they were old enough. Dorothie demonstrated natural talent: her body was flexible and she moved easily, using her arms and head in a fluid, poetic fashion.
