Siegel, Jerry (17 October 1914–28 January 1996), and Joe Shuster (10 July 1914–30 July 1992), a writer and an artist respectively, were born Jerome Siegel and Joseph Shuster in Cleveland, Ohio, and Toronto, Canada. (Their parents' names do not appear in readily available sources of information.) In 1924 Shuster's family moved to Cleveland, and his love of American newspaper comic strips made him determined to become a cartoonist. His first work appeared in school publications as editorial cartoons and amateur comic strips drawn under the influence of popular adventure strips of the time....
