Haring, Keith Allen (04 May 1958–16 February 1990), artist, was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, the son of Allen Haring, a foreman in the Western Electric plant, and Joan (maiden name unknown). Haring attended Kutztown High School. Dropping out of the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh after six months, Haring financed a cross-country trip by silkscreening T-shirts with psychedelic designs and selling them at Grateful Dead concerts along the way. After working briefly at the Arts and Crafts Center in Pittsburgh, Haring moved to New York. Haring entered the School for the Visual Arts (SVA) in the fall of 1978, studying with, among others, Keith Sonnier and Joseph Kosuth. He also met Kenny Scharf, ...
