Miller, Arthur (17 October 1915–10 February 2005), playwright and author, was born in New York City to Isidore Miller, a Polish immigrant who became a successful businessman in the garment industry, and Augusta Barnett, a schoolteacher and the daughter of Polish immigrants. He was the middle child in a Jewish family that included an older brother who excelled in both academics and sports and an appealing younger sister whom everyone adored; his sister later became a successful stage actress under the name Joan Copeland....
