Untermeyer, Louis (01 October 1885–19 December 1977), poet and anthologist, was born in New York City, the son of Emanuel Untermeyer, a prosperous jewelry manufacturer, and Julia Michael. As a child, Untermeyer wanted to become a concert pianist. Instead, he dropped out of high school at age fifteen and joined the family business.
