Moreno, Luisa (30 August 1906–03 November 1992), labor organizer, was born Blanca Rosa Rodriguez Lopez in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the daughter of wealthy parents, whose names and occupations are unknown. She traveled to the United States and attended grammar school at the Convent of the Holy Names in Oakland, California. Returning to Guatemala City, she organized female students who were concerned about the lack of educational opportunities for women at the country’s universities. Moreno later worked as a correspondent for a Guatemalan newspaper in Mexico City. She and her artist husband left Mexico in 1928 for New York City.
