Taylor, Creed (1766–17 January 1836), lawyer and jurist, was the son of Samuel Taylor, a planter of Cumberland County, Virginia, and his wife, Sophia (maiden name unknown). Educated locally, Taylor trained in the office of the county clerk, initially under Colonel George Carrington, Jr., and later under Miller Woodson. He developed a close attention to detail and a strong sense of the crucial importance of procedural law. In 1791 he resigned as deputy clerk and launched his own legal practice in Cumberland and the surrounding counties....
