Woodbridge, Frederick James Eugene (26 March 1867–01 June 1940), philosopher and educator, was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the son of James Woodbridge, a king’s counselor, and Melissa Ella Bingham. Woodbridge’s father, also publisher of the Essex Journal, moved in 1868 to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to administer the Michigan Asylum. His father wanted Woodbridge to pursue law, and Woodbridge always admired his father’s practical and common-sense approach to matters.
