Henry, Carl F. H. (22 January 1913–07 December 2003), evangelical theologian, was born Carl Ferdinand Howard Henry in New York City, the son of German immigrants Karl F. Heinrich, a master baker and petty bootlegger, and Johanna Vaethroeder. His parents changed the family name to Henry because of anti-German sentiment during World War I. Carl was the oldest of eight children. When he was seven the family settled in Central Islip on Long Island. His father worked hard and became violent when drunk, terrifying the children....
