Mills, Wilbur Daigh (24 May 1909–02 May 1992), congressman, was born in Kensett, Arkansas, the son of Ardra Pickens Mills, the owner of a general store, and Abbie Lois Daigh. The family was prosperous by local standards, and an acquaintance remembered that the Millses owned “what there was to own” in Kensett (Associated Press, 25 Apr. 1971). Wilbur Mills graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, in 1930. He attended Harvard Law School for the next three years but returned home before earning an LL.B. Though he was admitted to the Arkansas bar in 1933, he worked briefly in a Kensett bank his father had purchased. In 1934 he married Clarine “Polly” Billingsley; the couple had two daughters....
