Connally, John Bowden, Jr. (27 February 1917–15 June 1993), U.S. secretary of the treasury, governor of Texas, and U.S. secretary of the navy, was born near Floresville, Texas, the son of John Bowden Connally and Lela Wright, tenant farmers. The family prospered somewhat after resettling in San Antonio in 1926. Connally attended the University of Texas, where he honed his skills as an orator, dabbled in student government, and studied law.
