Raymond, Henry Jarvis (24 January 1820–18 June 1869), politician and editor, was born in Lima, New York, the son of Jarvis Raymond and Lavinia Brockway, farmers. He grew up on his parents’ eighty-acre farm in western New York. A precocious child, Henry learned to read, according to some accounts, at three years of age.
