The Smithsonian NPG Portrait Collection
The ANB is pleased to share a partnership with the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. The ANB works in conjunction with curators from the NPG to find portrait illustrations that provide an accurate likeness for the subject, generally at a time when he or she was most prominent. The portraits include a range of forms, from busts to photographs to paintings, all intended to capture the character of the individual and intrigue the viewer.
Currently, the ANB contains over 3,000 illustrations. The number of illustrations will continue to grow—making the ANB a valuable resource for portrait research.
Subscribers to the ANB will be able to browse through these images and biographies, and use it as a starting point for research projects. Just select the "Search" tab, or go to the search page, and select "illustrations" to start exploring. A full list of the newest portraits from the NPG is available here.
