Garrett, Betty (23 May 1919–12 February 2011), musical comedy star, was born Elizabeth Garrett in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Elizabeth Octavia (Stone) Garrett, a music store manager, and Curtis Garrett, a traveling salesman.
Shortly after her birth, Betty’s family moved to Seattle, where her mother managed the sheet music department at Sherman Clay music store. Betty’s lifelong love of music began there. Her parents divorced when she was two because of her father’s alcoholism....
