Morley, Sylvanus Griswold (07 June 1883–02 September 1948), Maya archaeologist and epigrapher, was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, the son of Colonel Benjamin Franklin Morley, a professor of chemistry, and Sarah Eleanor Constance de Lannoy. When Morley was ten years old, the family moved to Buena Vista, Colorado, where he began to express serious interest in archaeology.
