Prentis, Henning Webb, Jr. (11 July 1884–29 October 1959), corporate executive, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Henning Webb Prentis, a high school principal, and Mary Morton McNutt. Prentis attended public schools in Missouri and in 1903 graduated with an A.B. from the University of Missouri. He worked for two years as secretary to the president of the University of Missouri, then studied economics in graduate school at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his master’s degree in 1907. Prentis served as secretary of the University of Cincinnati but in 1907 left academia to become a clerical assistant at the general offices of the Armstrong Cork Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, makers of about half of all linoleum sold in the United States. In 1909 he married Ida Bernice Cole; they had no children....
