Tudor, Frederic (04 September 1783–06 February 1864), merchant, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of William Tudor, a wealthy lawyer, and Delia Jarvis. He grew up in Boston and at the family’s country home in Saugus. He attended the Boston Latin School between the ages of ten and thirteen and then became the youngest apprentice in a new store on State Street in Boston. Unlike his two older brothers, who attended Harvard College, Tudor was determined to experience the world firsthand. He soon left the apprenticeship and worked the family farm at Saugus. In 1801 he traveled to Cuba with his older brother John, who hoped to recuperate from an illness there. The two later traveled to Philadelphia, where John died the following year. Tudor returned to Boston, clerked in a counting house, and set up his own mercantile business in 1804....
