Kracauer, Siegfried (08 February 1889–26 November 1966), social scientist and author, was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, the son of Adolph Kracauer, a businessman, and Rosette Oppenheimer. After the early death of his father, he was brought up by his uncle Isidor Kracauer, a prominent historian of the Frankfurt Jewish community.
