Will, William (27 January 1742–10 February 1798), pewterer, was born in Nieuwied, Germany, the son of John (or Johannes) Will, a and Johanna Judith (maiden name unknown). William came to the United States with his family in 1752; they settled in New York City. Will’s brother Henry became an important pewterer in New York, and most authorities suggest that William was trained in Henry’s shop. William Will probably moved to Philadelphia with another brother, Philip, also a who was working in Philadelphia by 1763. He was certainly in Philadelphia by the time of his marriage there to Barbara Culp in 1764; they had three children.
