Rosenman, Samuel Irving (13 February 1896–24 June 1973), jurist and presidential adviser, was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants Sol Rosenman and Ethel Paler. His parents settled in New York City, where Rosenman attended the Manhattan public schools. He graduated from Columbia College, Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude, in 1915. In 1917, after completing two years at the Columbia Law School, he enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army and was discharged in August 1919 as a second lieutenant.
