Van Name, Addison (15 November 1835–29 September 1922), librarian and linguist, was born in Chenango, New York, the son of Cornelius Van Name and Theodosia Ogden, farmers. His father maintained interests in lumbering and canal shipping businesses in addition to his farming. Van Name studied at the Binghamton Academy and Phillips Andover Academy and enrolled in Yale College in the fall of 1854, graduating in 1858.
