Rawle, Francis (1662–05 March 1727), merchant and economist, was born probably in Plymouth, England, the son of Francis Rawle and Jane (maiden name unknown). Rawle’s father, a devout Quaker, preferred imprisonment to compromise in matters of conscience; on one occasion he was joined in jail by his son.
