Wright, Sewall (21 December 1889–03 March 1988), mathematical geneticist, was born Sewall Green Wright in Melrose, Massachusetts, the son of Philip Green Wright and Elizabeth Quincy Sewall. In 1892 the Wright family moved to Galesburg, Illinois, where Wright’s father accepted a position at Lombard College, a small Universalist school, teaching a variety of subjects, including mathematics, astronomy, economics, and writing.
