Strunk, William, Jr. (01 July 1869–26 September 1946), educator and grammarian, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of William Strunk, Sr., and Ella Garretson Strunk. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1890 with an A.B. and was an instructor in mathematics at the Rose Polytechnical Institute in Terra Haute, Indiana (1890–1891). He then went to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was an instructor in English (1891–1898) while earning his Ph.D. there (1896).
