Stowe, Calvin Ellis (26 April 1802–22 August 1886), biblical scholar, promoter of common schools, and husband of Harriet Beecher Stowe, biblical scholar, promoter of common schools, and husband of Harriet Beecher Stowe, was born in Natick, Massachusetts, the son of Samuel Stow, a baker, and Hephzibah Bigelow, a seamstress and practical nurse.
