Whitney, Gertrude Vanderbilt (09 January 1875–18 April 1942), sculptor and patron of the arts, was born in New York City, the daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, considered the wealthiest man in the United States, and Alice Claypoole Gwynne.
