Hewitt, Don (14 December 1922–19 August 2009), television news producer, was born Donald Shepard Hewitt in New York City to Jewish parents—Ely S. Hewitt, an advertising salesman for Hearst Newspapers, and Frieda Pike Hewitt—and was raised in suburban New Rochelle, New York. Hewitt graduated New Rochelle High School in 1940 and went to New York University on a track scholarship.
