Pugh, Sarah (06 October 1800–01 August 1884), abolitionist and teacher, was born in Alexandria, Virginia, the daughter of Quakers Jesse Pugh and Catharine Jackson. After Pugh’s father died when she was two, she moved with her mother and brother Isaac to the Chester County, Pennsylvania, home of her grandfather, Isaac Jackson, a longtime Quaker opponent of slavery.
