Guilford, Joy Paul (07 March 1897–26 November 1987), psychologist and educator, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska, the son of Edwin Augustus Guilford and Arvilla Monroe, farmers. He attended college at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he earned both an A.B. (1922) and an M.A. (1924) in psychology. His undergraduate studies were briefly interrupted by service in the Army Signal Corps during World War I.
