Stibitz, George Robert (30 Apr. 1904–31 Jan. 1995), engineer and pioneer of computing, was born to George and Mildred Murphy Stibitz in York, Pennsylvania. His father, a professor of ancient languages and the Old Testament, took a position at what became the United Theological Seminary and moved the family to Dayton, Ohio.
