Youmans, William Jay (14 October 1838–10 April 1901), science writer and editor, was born in Milton, Saratoga County, New York, the son of Vincent Youmans and Catherine Scofield, farmers. Life was hard at the Youmans homestead, but the parents instilled a love of literature and a social conscience in their children....
