Dalton, John Call, Jr. (02 February 1825–12 February 1889), physiologist and medical educator, was born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, the son of John Call Dalton, a physician, and Julia Ann Spalding. Dalton graduated from Harvard College, his father’s alma mater, in 1844, and he immediately entered Harvard Medical School, from which he earned his M.D. in 1847.
