Thompson, Ernest Trice (02 July 1894–29 March 1985), southern Presbyterian churchman and historian, was born in Texarkana, Texas, the son of Ernest T. Thompson, Presbyterian minister, and Jimmie Sawyer Graves. Thompson’s family moved to Edinburgh, Scotland (1895–1896), and then to Louisville, Kentucky (1897–1902), before his father became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, West Virginia (1902–1936).
