Stark, Harold Raynsford (12 November 1888–20 August 1972), chief of naval operations, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the son of Benjamin Stark, a colonel and commander of the Ninth Pennsylvania Regiment, and Mary Frances Warner. Stark attended local schools and graduated with honors. He then entered the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, completing the academic portion in 1903. He made the required two-year cruise and was commissioned an ensign in February 1905. In 1907 he married Katherine Adele Rhodes; they had two children....
