Forbes, William Cameron (21 May 1870–24 December 1959), businessman and diplomat, was born in Milton, Massachusetts, the son of William Hathaway Forbes, president of the American Bell Telephone Company, and Edith Emerson, daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Forbes attended Milton (Mass.) Academy and Hopkinson’s School in Boston and was graduated from Harvard University in 1892. Between 1894 and 1898 he traveled extensively, became a world-class polo player, and coached Harvard’s football team.
