McDill, James Wilson (04 March 1834–28 February 1894), U.S. senator and interstate commerce commissioner, was born in Butler County, Ohio, the son of John McDill, a Presbyterian clergyman, and Frances Wilson. As an infant James moved with his family to Hanover, Indiana. After elementary training in the common schools of Hanover, he enrolled in the preparatory department of Hanover College and then transferred to Salem Academy in Ohio.
