Finley, Samuel ( February 1715–17 July 1766), Presbyterian minister and college president, was born in the County of Armagh in Ulster, Ireland, the son of Scots-Irish parents, but little is known about them or about Finley’s childhood and early education. He immigrated to the colonies at the age of nineteen, arriving in Philadelphia in September 1734.
