Brainerd, David (20 April 1718–09 October 1747), Puritan missionary to the Indians, was born in Haddam, Connecticut, the son of Hezekiah Brainerd, a prosperous and prominent social and political figure, and Dorothy Hobart Mason, the daughter of a Congregationalist minister and the widow of Daniel Mason.
