Dixon, Joseph Moore (31 July 1867–22 May 1934), politician, was born in Snow Camp, North Carolina, the son of Hugh Woody Dixon, a farmer and small-scale manufacturer, and Flora Adaline Murchison. Snow Camp was a small Quaker, Republican enclave, dominated by Dixon’s intensely religious father and uncle. Dixon was educated in neighboring Quaker schools and at Earlham and Guilford colleges (A.B., 1889).
