Wells, Kitty (30 August 1919–16 July 2012), country music singer, was born Ellen Muriel Deason in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Charles Carey Deason, a brakeman on the Tennessee Central Railroad, and Myrtle Street. Growing up Muriel learned countless ballads from her father, an amateur guitarist who played local square dances, and gospel songs from her mother. As a teenager Muriel sang in the choir at the local Nazarene Church and learned a few guitar chords with the help of a classmate. Soon she was playing at picnics and church socials....
