Goddard, Paulette (03 June 1910–23 April 1990), actress, was born Marion Levy, in Whitestone Landing, Long Island, New York, the only child of Joseph Russell Levy, a Jewish cigar manufacturer and theater operator, and Alta Mae (Goddard) Levy, an Episcopalian of English descent. Her parents separated early in her childhood, and Pauline, a nickname taken from her grandmother, was moved by Alta from New York to Canada to Kansas to evade her father’s custody. Pauline’s sporadic education included stops at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, New Jersey, and Ursuline Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The couple’s divorce became final in May 1926....
