Hunter, Kim (12 November 1922–11 September 2002), actor, was born Janet Cole in Detroit, Michigan, to Donald Cole, an electrical engineer, and Grace Lind, a classical pianist. Her father died when she was four years old, and her mother subsequently remarried. In 1932 the family, which included Hunter's older brother, moved to Miami Beach, Florida. Hunter later recalled a lonely childhood and said that she made up imaginary friends in a mirror, spurring an interest in acting. That interest developed into a passion by the time she entered public high school in Miami Beach, and she began taking acting lessons.
