Frings, Ketti (1915?–11 February 1981), writer, was born Katharine Hartley in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Guy Herbert Hartley, a paper box salesman, and Pauline Sparks. Frings later claimed that she remembered little of her childhood because the family moved so often. “No matter where we lived, my father was always commuting somewhere else” (Amory). The Hartleys had lived in thirteen cities by the time Frings was thirteen, when her mother died. Sent with her two sisters to live with an aunt in Milwaukee, she attended Lake School for Girls and wrote daily “letters” to her mother via her diary for several years....
