Demarest, William Carl (27 February 1892–28 December 1983), actor, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Samuel Demarest and Minnie Lingren, farmers. One of three sons, Demarest and his family moved to New Jersey when he was an infant. With his brothers, Ruben and George, “Willie” formed a trio, and their mother trained them for entering the entertainment business. Around 1906 they began performing in hotels in New Jersey as well as on Times Square street corners, with William playing the cello. Later, he and George worked up a vaudeville act in which they appeared in blackface and kilts and billed themselves as “The Demarestio Brothers, European Comedy Stars.”...
