Valentino, Rudolph (06 May 1895–23 August 1926), actor, was born Rodolfo Alfonzo Raffaele Pierre Philibert Guglielmi in Castellaneta, Italy, the son of Giovanni Guglielmi, a cavalry officer of the Royal Italian Army and a mason, and Beatrice Gabriella Barbin. Valentino’s early years in Italy are unremarkable. He studied agriculture and then immigrated to the United States in 1913. After failing to become an army officer, he worked as a gardener, waiter, and café and stage dancer. He also resorted to petty thievery before gaining work as an extra in silent movies, which led to several minor roles between 1914 and 1921....
