Eisner, William Erwin (06 March 1917–03 January 2005), "cartoonist and graphic novelist who signed his work ""Will Eisner, """, cartoonist and graphic novelist who signed his work "Will Eisner," was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Jewish immigrants: Samuel Eisner, a painter who earned his living in a variety of related endeavors, and Fannie Ingber Eisner. When the Eisners moved to the Bronx, Billy enrolled at DeWitt Clinton High School where the curriculum fostered students' artistic and literary talents. He drew for the school literary magazine and for its newspaper. He also attended the Art Students League and worked after school in a printing shop.
